not having read as much as I used to these last months (for my usual pace, anyhow), I spent some of my lunch time today to finish reading The New York Trilogy, by Paul Auster, a book that was a b-day present by some very good friends and came highly recommended ... for a collection of what seems to be 3 short stories, it has to be one of the strangest books I've ever read. The writing has impact, really takes you into the mood and atmosphere of the stories, and shows us New York as I had never pictured. It starts with a detective story, but as the plot develops you can see that it's a bit more than that. The last story is quite powerful, and explains the logic of the first two (or tries to)... but the feeling I have is the same I usually get after watching a David Lynch movie: as if I'm somehow missing all the clues when they're right there in front of me :P Murakami gives me this sensation sometimes as well, but his writing is much more emotional and brilliant in other ways.
Anyone else has read this book and has a different opinion ? I'll probably try another of his books in the future, but I'm not in a big hurry...

paul auster é o meu escritor preferido! (http://felty.blogs.sapo.pt/arquivo/603883.html)
beijo grande*
[ah! e gosto do nome do teu blog!]
Hi! I came across your blog by accident. I was just looking at your beautiful work when I noticed that you have read New York Trilogy. I´ve read it too, a couple of years ago, and I love it. I agree with you when you say it is weird, but that's why it's so amazing. Paul Auster is one of my favourite writers and I´ve read almost everything he wrote. So I advise you to hurry up and read other books by him! He knows what he is doing. :)
Excellent, love it! » » »
