the new york trilogy

not having read as much as I used to these last months (for my usual pace, anyhow), I spent some of my lunch time today to finish reading The New York Trilogy, by Paul Auster, a book that was a b-day present by some very good friends and came highly recommended ... for a collection of what seems to be 3 short stories, it has to be one of the strangest books I've ever read. The writing has impact, really takes you into the mood and atmosphere of the stories, and shows us New York as I had never pictured. It starts with a detective story, but as the plot develops you can see that it's a bit more than that. The last story is quite powerful, and explains the logic of the first two (or tries to)... but the feeling I have is the same I usually get after watching a David Lynch movie: as if I'm somehow missing all the clues when they're right there in front of me :P Murakami gives me this sensation sometimes as well, but his writing is much more emotional and brilliant in other ways.
Anyone else has read this book and has a different opinion ? I'll probably try another of his books in the future, but I'm not in a big hurry...

friday craft gallery

no new items to post today (sorry, yesterday was all about celebrating and no work done ;-), but I did start some new knitting ... a turquoise curly scarf and a grey hat to match my mittens (also started some pink mittens, but no photos yet)

and because it's friday, here are some of the things that I really loved this week... great X-Mas presents ideas, all of them ;-)

shopping trip

On Saturday me, F., S., T., B. and M. went on a shopping trip to Porto (well, the girls went shopping, the guys went wine tasting ;-)
C. had arranged a fabulous shopping schedule for us, and it was so successful that we bought items in every store she took us to ... fabulous fabric, yarn and bead shops, and also time to stop by a Pucca store (which had not only Pucca but also Hello Kitty merchandise, and I'm a huge fan of both ...). We had lunch at Nakité, a really nice vegetarian restaurant, visited Quasiloja and had time for a quick bite of the famous chocolate cake at Guarany during the BC meeting before catching the train back ... it was a great Saturday, but next time I'll probably need to take two backpacks to be able to bring all my shopping back :-)

fabrics from "Armazém dos Linhos", my favourite is the blue and green one with the yellow birdies

chita and other printed fabrics
