Another project made during the summer, and already a bit delayed since I only finished it almost 2 months after my friend's baby was born. My sewing machine is not the best for sewing quilts, but with a lot of patience I managed to finish it to my taste :)

baby quilt #1
Remember this doll quilt I made almost 3 years ago ? At the time I had cut enough fabric for a second piece, which I've finally assembled into a a baby quilt. Not large enough for the crib, but maybe a stroller quilt ? Anyway, I love these colors, and since it was small I decided to hand quilt it as well. Even so it took a while, so it's not something I'll likely try again soon .. the next ones will definitely be machine quilted :)

doll quilt ♥
I finally received my doll quilt last week, and I couldn't wait to show you. It came from talented Shannon and it's just beautiful, I'm so in love with it.

I want to hang it properly in the studio soon, but for now it just looks so nice in this little corner.

doll quilt swap
It was another quiet weekend, busy with crafts and reading mostly. I did finish the doll quilt for the swap, and I think it actually turned out not too bad. Hopefully my surprise partner will forgive my lateness and my beginner's quilting techniques.

still very worried
hello, all ... Sushi would like to thank everyone for the comments and get well wishes on the last post. Unfortunately the outlook is looking very poor right now. She was so anemic on Tuesday that she had to get a blood transfusion - thankfully she and Amélie were a match - and seemed to get a bit better after that, but she's still not eating unless we feed her with a syringe, and has developed liquid in her lungs. After discussing it with A. we decided to bring her back home last night. She has been staying at the vet's since Monday and put on IV, but was looking so uncomfortable and stressed that we thought it best if she could come home at least for the night. She did somewhat better last night, ate a bit more and even tried to get up a couple of times, but her breathing is so hard that we're worried she might not make it for much longer. The last alternative is to feed her through nose intubation but we're afraid she might not survive the anesthesia so we decided not to force that on her for now.
A. took her back to the vet this morning to get her medication and run some blood tests, let's see how that goes.
I know that putting her to sleep is something we might have to consider soon, since the last thing we want is for her to suffer in constant pain, but I really can't contemplate that decision right now. Anyway, that was the update. Sorry about the long worrisome post, but I just needed to write it down. No crafts or anything else this week (and if you've been expecting to receive mail from me recently, sorry but I didn't have time to pass by the post office yet), but the photo above is of the quilt top I sew together last weekend for the doll quilt swap.

doll quilt inspiration
so I was crazy enough to sign up for doll quilt swap II. I figured that it would be a nice way to start and try my quilting abilities, and I guess there's not much damage I can do if I try a doll quilt size first, right ? So if you're my swap partner and you're reading this, I apologize in advance for whatever the result might turn out to be. I'm a little bit in awe of all this, since my partner is actually quite an experienced quilter, but I've taken the challenge and will see this to the end.
The only request I got was no pastel colors, so I thought I could at least combine a couple of my favorite colors (I'm not a pastel person either). This is the fabric selection I got so far. It looks so pretty this way I almost don't have the courage to cut it all up, but don't worry, I will start working on it this weekend.
And to give me some inspiration, I round up some of my favorite doll quilts out there:

1. Doll quilt, Mama Urchin, 2. Strippy doll quilt front, Losabia, 3. Strippy Doll Quilt, WendysWTN, 4. doll.quilt, JoyBucket, 5. Beth's first ever quilt, Losabia, 6. Doll quilt, Jenny B, 7. Doll Quilt Swap, The Harvatines 8. Doll Quilt, Crafty Ginger, 9. Doll Quilt Swap: American Geese, Krom Mama
And sorry I couldn't update the shop with the rest of the items this week, but hopefully that will happen in the next couple of days. Enjoy the weekend !

the indian quilt
The photos from this exhibit, and the quilt posts from Mary and Rita just reminded me of this indian quilt that I purchased during my last trip to S. Paulo (and which for some reason I forgot to show here).
I'm still hoping that someday I'll be able to make my own quilt - maybe a project for this summer ? Amanda, I see, is planning a summer of quilts, and I can't wait to try Amy's tutorials. Until then, I'm just happy on how this looks on our bed. Beautiful, isn't it ?

brasil patchwork show
Ahhh, thankfully this week is passing by quicker than the last one. Not that I have much reason to complain, but I'm all ready to go back home now, you know ... I miss my husband, my friends, family, my home, my bed, the cats, just about everything. I guess I could never be one of those career women that travel all the time and live off a suitcase ... Anyway, but this week has been great. I had dinner with Glá and R. a couple of nights ago, at the fantastic Santa Gula restaurant, in Vila Madalena. Very, very good. I'll remember that pistachio créme brulêe for a long time, I'm sure.

And last night I went to the Brasil Patchwork Show, which luckily happened here in S. Paulo during my trip. It was the first time this event took place, so I wasn't expecting much. The exhibition was small, but a few of the more known patchwork shops were there, and since I didn't have the time to visit them before, it was great to be able to check them all out in one place.
A lot of beautiful fabrics were for sale

I especially loved this stand, with Robert Kauffman oriental fabrics on display

And there was also a small quilt exhibit. Most of the work was very traditional, and not quite my style, but these were my favorites

details of that first quilt, I must have stared at it for some good 10 minutes

And of course I bought quite a few fabrics, just couldn't resist them. I especially recommend this store and this one, they had such a variety that it was quite hard to choose.
Definitely worth the visit, even if it was a small exhibit, so if you're in the neighborhood, don't miss it.
