les trois vallées (i)

De volta de uma semana na neve ... sempre bom para o corpo mas principalmente para o espírito. Depois de vários anos seguidos em Val d'Isére, desta vez estivémos  em La Tania nos Trois Vallées, e posso dizer que foi uma boa experiência. Uma estância muito simpática, bastante prática para quem tem crianças, e um alojamento que superou as minhas expectativas (Le Christiania).

Aos 3 anos a S. estreou-se no ski, e não podia ter corrido melhor :)

Just came back from our ski trip ... always good for  the body but especially for the mind. After several years going to Val d'Isére, this time we decided to try the resort of La Tania, in the Trois Vallées, and I can say it was a great experience. It's a very family friendly resort, quite practical for those with small children, and the apartment we stayed in actually surpassed my expectations (Le Christiania). 

S. went skiing for the first time, and it couldn't have gone better :)

Outro casaco tricotado com um dos meus fios preferidos (novamente madelinetosh DK). Este modelo foi fácil e super rápido de tricotar (acabado em cerca de um mês), e fiquei agora com vontade de tricotar a versão criança para a S.

Another cardigan in one of my favorite  yarns (madelinetosh DK again). This pattern was easy and super quick to knit (finished in about a month), and I'm now planning to knit the child version for S.

Fio / Yarn: Madelinetosh DK in Byzantine (4 skeins). Leftover yarn was just a tiny ball. 

Agulhas / Needles: 4 mmm

Tamanho / Size: S with smaller gauge

Changes made were very few: 

• made an extra button hole
• picked up 60 stitches on each armhole (because I used smaller needles), basically 3 out of every 4 rows

Final measurements after blocking were more like the XS size (32” chest)

Um casaco que foi amor à primeira vista assim que o padrão foi publicado. E escolhi fazer em amarelo mostarda, uma cor de que cada vez gosto mais, principalmente nestes dias de inverno frios e chuvosos.

Optei por alterar a gola do padrão original, que apesar de ser bastante interessante achei que iria ser pouco prática.

 

A cardigan that was love at first sight as soon as the pattern was released. And I chose to knit a mustard yellow version, a color that has quickly become a favorite, especially during these cold and rainy winter days.

I changed the collar from the original pattern which despite being quite interesting wouldn't be so practical to wear.

Mathilde #1

Uma nova blusa feita antes do Natal, mas que só consegui fotografar agora. O padrão é o Mathilde, da Tilly and the Buttons, e gostei tanto que já tenho planos para uma nova versão. 

Adoro: as pregas pequenas à frente e os botões atrás. 

O que alterei: mangas compridas em vez de 3/4.

A new blouse that I made before Christmas but only had the time to photograph now. The pattern is Mathilde, from Tilly and the Buttons, and I like it so much I already have plans for another version.

What I loved: the front pleats and the buttons on the back

What I changed: long sleeves instead of 3/4

O ano de 2013 foi um ano extraordinário no que toca a leituras, principalmente porque consegui não só atingir o meu objectivo de livros a ler (80) mas ultrapassei bastante esse número (num total de 123 livros !).  Aqui fica um breve resumo dos livros a destacar (lista detalhada no Goodreads) ...

Dei 5 estrelas a 12 livros :

- Este foi o ano da descoberta do Rafael Sabatini adorei o Captain Blood e o Scaramouche, ambos em audiobook.

- Trilogia Lumatere, Melina Marchetta

- High Wages da Dorothy Whipple - cada vez gosto mais dos livros dela (lentamente ando a aumentar a minha colecção de livros Persephone)

- The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Rachel Joyce

- Bring up the bodies, Hillary Mantel

- Days of blood and starlight, Laini Taylor

- The scapegoat e Jamaica Inn, da Daphne du Maurier (este foi um grande ano para os audiobooks !)

- The glass lake (re-leitura do meu livro preferido da Maeve Binchy)

De 4 estrelas, destaco os seguintes:

- Trilogia Flora, da Ysabeau S. Wilce

- Mais 2 Daphne du Maurier: Frenchman's Creek e My cousin Rachel

- Seraphina, Rachel Hartman

- Wool Omnibus, Hugh Howey - não costumo ler muita ficção científica, mas este despertou-me a curiosidade e acabei por gostar bastante

- Me before you, Jo Jo Moyes - perfeito para comfort reading, e fiquei com vontade de ler outros desta autora

- Like this for ever (Lacey Flint #3), S. J. Bolton - também não leio muitos policiais, mas esta autora tem sido uma boa surpresa, e este último volume recomenda-se

- The snow child, Eowyn Ivey

- #2 e #4 da colecção Ashbury/Brookfield (young adult) da Jaclyn Moriarty

- The age of miracles, Karen Walker

- The light between oceans, M. L. Stedman

- Where'd you go Bernardette, Maria Semple (mais um audiobook)

- My most excellent year, Steve Kluger (young adult)

I gave 5 stars to 12 books:

- The discovery of the year was Rafael Sabatini, I loved Captain Blood and Scaramouche, both in audiobook format.

- Lumatere Trilogy (fantasy), Melina Marchetta

- High Wages by Dorothy Whipple - I've been loving her books more and more, and slowly I've been adding to my collection of Persephone books.

- The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Rachel Joyce

- Bring up the bodies, Hillary Mantel

- Days of blood and starlight, Laini Taylor

- The scapegoat and Jamaica Inn, Daphne du Maurier (also in audiobook format)

- The glass lake (re-read of my Maeve Binchy favourite)

With 4 star rating:

- Flora trilogy, Ysabeau S. Wilce

- Two more books by Daphne du Maurier: Frenchman's Creek and My cousin Rachel

- Seraphina, Rachel Hartman

- Wool Omnibus, Hugh Howey - I don't usually read a lot of SF, but this one made me curious as I kept reading good reviews and I really liked it

- Me before you, Jo Jo Moyes - perfect for comfort reading, and I'll probably try others by this author

- Like this for ever (Lacey Flint #3), S. J. Bolton - I also don't read a lot of crime/murder mysteries but this author has been a good surprise and this last volume was very good
