a sunny cardigan

The yarn Sara chose for her cardigan when we went yarn shopping in Ulm was this soft yellow superwash merino from Wolle Rodel. When we got home I gave her several patterns to choose from, but in the end she said she wanted the same cardigan I knit her last year, so although I don't like repeating patterns I obliged by casting on another Springtime in Hollis. The yarn was just enough to finish the collar, so I didn't have any to make the i-cord. I decided instead to make a fabric ribbon and used the same fabric to cover the buttons.

a brincar à Elsa :: playing Elsa

Like every 4 year old toddler girl she's been obssessed with Elsa since she watched Frozen for the first time. I came upon this great tutorial for a no-sew Elsa cape the other day and decided to make a few for her and her friends to play with. I made them with some light blue organza, and decorated with appliqué snowflakes made of white satin.

What to do when your toddler asks for a bat costume for Halloween ? You google it and find that there are amazing tutorials out there to make it happen. I loved this one, so part of last Saturday morning was spent assembling it. It's really easy (it was probably trickier to find the black t-shirt on her size) and for the mask I decided to just make it a regular one instead of taping it to a pair of sunglasses.

 

Tip: I didn't have any boning strips at hand (and have no idea where to buy them locally) so I used some cabling strips we had lying around (see last picture).

E porque ela também estava a precisar de um casaco novo de primavera, decidi fazer uma nova versão deste modelo que fiz (e adoro) do livro Handmade Beginnings da Anna Maria Horner. O tamanho maior do livro já era demasiado pequeno, mas aumentei-o ligeiramente e ficou perfeito. É reversível, mas parece-me que a S. vai querer usar as galinhas do lado de fora quase sempre ...

And because she needed a new spring jacket too, I decided to make a new version of this pattern from Anna Maria Horner's book Handmade Beginnings. The largest size was already too small for her, but I enlarged it a bit and it turned out perfect. It's reversible, but I have a feeling she will want to use the chicken fabric on the outside all the time ...

Um novo chapéu para a S., porque os do ano passado já não lhe serviam. Usei o padrão grátis da Oliver + S, que recomendo - fácil, simples de seguir e rápido.

A new spring hat for S., because last year's no longer fit. I used the reversible bucket hat free pattern from Oliver + S, which I quite recommend - easy, very clear and simple instructions and  quick to make.

um casaquinho de Natal :: a Christmas cardi

E no meio das mil e uma coisas que tinha de fazer no Natal decidi que a S. precisava de um casaquinho novo ...  Tinha este padrão comprado na minha lista já há quase 2 anos, e finalmente foi esta a desculpa perfeita para o tricotar. A lã tinha vindo da nossa viagem a Ghent (e um novelo extra que comprei depois em Viena), e deu para quase tudo menos para as mangas, que ficaram um pouco mais curtas do que tinha planeado. De resto, adorei o resultado final e voltarei de certeza a tricotar este padrão novamente.

And in the midst of the million things I had to make for Christmas I decided that S. needed a new handmade cardigan... I had this pattern on my queue for almost 2 years now, and this was finally the perfect excuse to knit it. The yarn came from our trip to Ghent (and an extra skein purchased in Vienna), and it was almost enough for the whole cardigan except the sleeves, which as a result turned out a bit shorter than I had planned. But I really like the final result and will definitely knit this again for her in the future.

Mais prendas para oferecer (e dois chapéus novos para a S.). Decidi que este Natal os mais pequeninos iriam receber todos chapéus com orelhas :-)

Assim que vi este tutorial decidi que tinha de fazer um para a S. Aumentei a largura do modelo original ligeiramente (1.5 cm de cada lado, portanto 6 cm no total) mas deixei praticamente a mesma altura. E não podia ter sido um projecto mais rápido - tempo de execução ? 30 min.

As soon as I saw this tutorial online I decided I had to make one for S. I increased the width of the original pattern slightly (1.5 cm on each side, so about 6 cm in total), but I didn't change the height much. And it couldn't have been a quicker project - execution time ? 30 min.

Parece-me que ela gostou, não acham ?
It seems that she liked it, don't you think ?

O único problema é que agora pediu-me outro com orelhas de coelho ... parece-me que já sei o que fazer este fim de semana :)

The only problem is that she now asked me to make another one with rabbit ears ... I think I know what I'll be doing this next weekend :)

Uma mala para as aulas de natação. Ela estava mesmo a precisar, e quando vi estes tecidos impermeáveis na At Home Hobby achei-os perfeitos para o propósito. Fi-la reversível e impermeável dos dois lados, e pela primeira vez aprendi a fazer uma alça ajustável, graças a este tutorial.

A toddler messenger bag for her swimming lessons. It was really needed, and when I saw these laminated fabrics at At Home Hobby I thought they would be perfect for this purpose. I made it reversible and therefore waterproof on both sides, and for the first time learnt how to make an adjustable strap, thanks to this tutorial.
